The SAMLESBURY
DECORATIVE & FINE ARTS SOCIETY (a
member society of NADFAS)Both Samlesbury DFAS and the North West Area DFAS host occasional days where members can enjoy presentations on topics of interest.
At a Day of Special Interest held by Samlesbury DFAS in November 2011,
Mr Colin Harding (pictured right) from the National Media Museum related a complete history of the early days of photography, from Fox Talbot's first indistinct lattice window at Leycock, to the end of the 19th century, when portraits became less starchy and severe.
This was illustrated with examples of Julia Margaret Cameron's more artistic poses.
The morning's enlightenment was then followed by a fine lunch at the Oak Royal Golf Club.

Shown below are some pictures taken from an earlier Special Interest Day at Alston Hall, led by Ian Chipperfield ('The Stay Maker') and his model Penny, entitled 'Etiquette of the Victorian Court and Underwear'.
